Our youngest team member, Marin Rantes, built his new Ghetto Pro bike yesterday and took it for a ride. It took him exactly 1 minute to get used to it, hehe. So he please the crowed in Warehouse skatepark with numerous tricks and smooth style.

festival special is its promotion of extreme sports, urban culture and music and in its

GMP Zion Dirt Jam results

GMP Zion Dirt Jam took place on Aco's local dirt jumps last weekend and it was nothing but good times. Only bad thing was the rain that fell on Friday and made everything wet , so we had to move the Jam from Saturday to Sunday which means that riding took place after a Satruday night party which is never really a good idea.

Rain or no rain it was a great weekend. Everybody gathered on Vrba beach on Saturday, raised their tents and started the BBQ . Aco did a great job making this a party to remember so we even had a private concert on the beach by Mondo Bizzaro band.

On Sunday morning we took some time fixing the jumps and the jam was on. Even thought it was still wet from the rain everybody rode incredible.

Last weekend there was a Pannonian Bike Expo in Osijek, Croatia, and as part of this event Jura organized a School of sponsorship. This was a 2 hour lecture by Jura and Mislav Mironović where they talked to young riders about how to approach to sponsors , get a sponsorship and all the little details that are important when you get sponsored. It was really cool and we should have more projects like this.

I know it sounds really unbelievable , but one of Zion team members recently went to space, :) !!!

Last month Jura applied a video for a Nokia N8 Producers contest and he was announced as one of 9 winner from the whole world. And I just couldn't believe how cool was his prize. He got a ticket for a Zero G flight , a plane that simulates weightless conditions that astronauts experience in space.
Jura packed his bags and went to Florida to claim his prize , half excited half really scared, hehe.
After the flight he only said few short words : it was amazing , but NEVER again .

I don't even know how to start writing this cause it sounds so unbelievable. Recently Jura filmed a short web edit about bicycles for Nokia N8 Producers contest and he was announced as one of the 9 prize winners . That's really cool, but that is not what I'm so stoked about.

The prize he got is amazing . A trip to Florida and flight in a ZERO G EXPERIENCE plane. Basically it is an simulation of weightlessness that astronauts experience in space. How cool is that ??? Nokia just earned a title of most original prize ever, amazing.

Focus frame production is almost over . Here is a photo from Taiwan of Focus frames after welding. At this moment they are already at painting factory so expect some final photos real soon. Frames will be sent to our distributor next week so you can expect them in shop real soon.

I'm so glad to say that today Zion is 6 years old . Even though number 6 doesn't sound that big, those first days seem so so far away.
I've been looking at some old photos and it's so great to remember all the old products we made and how team members grew up. It has been nothing but fun and I can't wait to see what future has planned for us.

Every flatlander out there is always searching for that one perfect spot where everything just clicks and you have a feeling you could pull anything there. And I know many guys that found one for themselves.

I found mine few years ago in Taiwan and it was just perfect. Floor, shape, location, everything...Smooth and fast , really peaceful, in the middle of a park and surprisingly quiet for Asian cities. I've been around the world this is still the no.1 place I would wanna ride everyday.

Focus frame in production

I'm really glad to announce that after long and hard testing phase Sam Foakes signature frame Focus is finally in production. I know that many of you have been waiting for this.

From the first day I started Focus project with Sam he knew exactly what he wanted. A frame that is strong and that can last a pro level riding for ages. A frame that you put on your bike and just ride, without having to check it for cracks after every session and without a fear that it will snap on a practice run just before a contest starts. We've seen to many of cases like this.

Second thing that Sam is really picky about is frame geometry. We spent a lot of time discussing frame geometry, making sure we take care of every single detail. This included making special frame drawings that weren't just normal CAD drawings but we also drew frame in different trick positions to calculate tire clearance from ground and effects of different angles.

If you remember, Sam started testing his first Focus prototype in March 2009 and he is still riding that same frame. It went through a lot of testing , got A LOT of beating but still there are no cracks. So after a year and 8 months of testing we decided to make final drawing and start production.

What most of you are probably most interested in are frame specs, so here they are, explained.

Toptube length - 19.0"
Headtube angle - 74 deg
Seattube angle - 71 deg
Chainstay length - 13.25" (13.0 - 13.5" )

Let me explain it shortly

First thing most riders take in consideration when buying a frame is Toptube lenght. But that measurement alone is worthless if you don't consider it together with other specs.

19.0 TT length maybe sounds shorter then most of you expected from Focus but it is because of this HT and ST angle combination.
Sam changed ST angle to 71 degrees because it gives a little more more space for cliffhanger tricks, moving your seatpost a bit towards the handlebar.
So keeping the same wheelbase of the bike if we changed HT angle to "modern flatland standard" 75 degrees , toptube length would be 19.4" . If we changed it to 74.5 , toptube length would be 19.2 (same as first Focus prototype) .

Chainstay length on frames is usually described with only one length, but that doesn't really explain it well since you can move the wheel inside the dropout.
Focus frame has these 3 chainstay lengths :

13.0" - wheel slammed in dropout
13.25" - wheel centered in dropout
13.5" - wheel extended in dropout

Hope this explains the geometry well.

There is also one great innovation that on Focus frame that you haven't seen on any other flatland frame before : Taper Lock patent dropouts.

Taper Lock is a patented design of dropouts made by a Taiwanese rider that completely solves the problem of chain tension in a most simple way, with out the use of chaintensioners. It is a brilliant idea that I've tested on street frames and it will come on all Zion frames in the future.

Focus frames comes with 14mm dropouts , but with the frame you will get both 14mm and 10mm taper lock washers , so it works both with 3/8 and 14mm hubs.

Here are 2 photos that show you the simplicity of Taper Lock. No explanation needed.
And believe me , once you tighten your wheel it doesn't move ever again. EVER !!

And last thing I didn't mention is that for this first batch of Focus frames Sam chose a Sparkling Black color.

Frame production should be finished by the end of this year and it will be available in shops beginning of 2011.
For the retail price you will have to wait till it hits the shops.

This weekend we went to Ljubljana for Pepsi Evolution Jam and it was nothing but fun, as always. A well known Zion recipe for laughing proved itself once again , just put the team in Zion van and drive and your abs will hurt from laughing.

This was probably our last team trip this year cause winter is coming fast. And we used it well. Great indoor, great riding, a lot of drinks and sleeping on a huge 10 meter long mattress...Poki also took the first place and got some cash for it.

Recently there was a round 2 of KOG contest in Japan and as always some of the best riders in the world gathered there to compete and to enjoy the amazing life in Japan. Few days ago Filip changed a frame on his bike to help me with some frame testing of Zion Vertigo frame. This is a mid level frame that came on Zion 2010 complete bikes and turned out to be a really really good and strong frame for a really low price. So to test if this frame can also take some pro-street abuse Filip offered himself to take it through some hard testing, hehe.

Maybe you didn't know but Sam Foakes doesn't really see a difference between riding on dry surface or riding in rain, its all the same to him, hehe. Zion Bmx Camp report

This weekend Zion did something really cool for kids in Osijek, Croatia. We organized a Zion Bmx Camp, a training camp for all young riders in Croatia where they had an opportunity to learn and train with guys from Zion Pro team.

Five riders from Zion team spent the whole saturday showing kids all the the important stuff they need to know about riding their bike. Warming up and stretching, jumping quaters, jumpbox and spine and teaching them new tricks. It was really a lot of fun.

We had 35 kids attending this camp and they were really eager to learn, so I could really see progress in their riding by the end of the day. Also every single one of those kids went home with some sort of prize. We made a raffle for them , with same number of prizes as number of kids that attended the camp. We hooked them up with lots of Zion parts , Vans and Carhartt t-shirts, caps and backpacks and then we also had 3 main prizes Nokia sponsored us with : 3 Nokia XpressMusic cell phones. One was given as a main prize on raffle , one for winner of bunnyhop contest and one for the kid that shower the biggest progress and made the most effort during this camp. I don't even have to tell you how happy those kids were with these prizes, hehe.

No doubt, a great weekend and we will definitely be doing more of these camps in other cities.

These last few weeks I've been really really busy and haven't been riding much. Well, that has to be changed, hehe.
Today I assembled a new street bike for myself with new prototype of Ace ver.2 frame , new Zion prototype fork and a prototype of Filip's signature bar. Honestly, this one is tooooo light, hehe. Every now and then I like to take some time off flatland and just play around on street bike. I just hope tomorrow is gonna be a sunny day so I can enjoy my new bike.

2 weeks ago all those new Zion prototype frames and parts arrived to Zion office and testing phase already begun. Here are first photos of Jura's new Silence ver.2 bike.

This is a prototype of a second edition of Jura's signature frame for Zion and I think all of you can agree with me that it turned out sweeeeet. He is also testing a prototype of Headbanger bar (Filip's signature handlebar) and a prototype of new Zion forks.

Funniest thing in Taiwan !!!

Hahahaha... Taiwan is amazing and funny in so many ways , but this is one of those little things that makes me laugh every single time I see it.
Pedestrian traffic lights are animated in Taiwan, so when the green light is on a little guy starts walking and counts the time. When times is almost out little green guy starts running like crazy , hehe , to let you know that you should hurry up before you get ran over by a herd of scooters.

sorry for not updating for a week , I've been buried in work. But now there are so many news to share with you. New Zion completes arrived to office few days ago so I'll be presenting them to you this next few days.

I'm really proud to present you a new addition to Zion family , Masatoshi Karino aka MarKun . This young rider is one of most outstanding talents of new Japanese generation of flatlanders, so be sure you remember this name.

Few days ago Jura came back from Woodward Camp, so I picked him up on the airport just before I left for Taiwan. He spent 3 weeks in USA enjoying NY City and training hard in Woodward. He spent 2 weeks there getting ready for new season and working on few new moves. Here are few photos of his training session.

Hi everyone,

this last days I've been really buried with work cause new 2010 complete bikes are arriving to Zion warehouse and at the same time I'm flying to Taiwan. So I didn't really find time for updating Zion website.

So, this Sunday I'm going to Taiwan to attend Taipei Cycle Show and do some work on few new Zion projects. Can't wait...
When I get back we'll have a photo shooting of new Zion 2010 completes, so you will finally be able to see them (both flatland and street bikes).

Akihiko and few of his friends took a trip to Canada last weekend to compete on FU6 and Aki got 4th place. Great job man...
He just arrived home and so you can expect some photos from his trip these days.

Jura is still in Woodward , training really hard and enjoying every moment. He is also filming a web video of his trip so you can expect that some time this month.

And last news are not that good, hehe.....Croatia is buried in snow , AGAIN !!! so we'll have to wait few more weeks before riding season starts.

Spy photos - new frame prototypes !!!

Some more spy photos for you guys , hehe !!!

These are prototypes of a new version of Zion Silence and Ace frames that we worked on for a long time. I wanted to make highest quality frames so we used all the best technology that is currently available.

Here are some specs :

- triple butted and oval butted TT and DT
- double butted and tapered SS and CS
- fully heat-treated after welding
- offset CNC'd HT and BB shell
- taper lock patent design on dropouts
- integrated seatclamp

Weight of these prototype frame is a joke, only 1.69 kg (3.7 lbs) . We made them lighter for testing phase so if they can stand testing abuse with these lowered weight, production model is going to be indestructible.

We made 3 versions of these prototypes, for Jura, Filip and Aco.

Last week he got one more sponsor, so from now on Odyssey will hook him up with some sweet parts. Today we assembled a new bike for him with all the stuff he got from Odyssey and tomorrow he is going on a really cool trip : Vienna, New York and last stop Camp Woodward.

Just wanted to keep you updated with what's going on in Zion at the moment .

Winter hit us really hard this year and I honestly can't remember the last time I rode my bike. But being having this extra free time helped me to finish some projects that have been on standby for some time (including this new website).

If you followed Zion news from the beginning of this year you saw that we have few new products that just finished production. A container with new Zion stuff left Taiwan last week and will be in Croatia in few weeks so I'll add more photos and specifications of new products once they arrive to warehouse.
Biggest part of this shipment is something I haven't showed on Zion site yet, new Zion 2010 completes. These include some really really cool new street completes, from AM to PRO range, and also the prototypes of flatland complete bikes that we working on at the moment. There is a big lack of good flatland completes on the market and Zion is hoping to cover it this year.

Team has also been quite lately because of this winter but this will change as soon as spring comes. Here is what guys are doing at the moment :

Jura is probably the happiest guy on the team at this moment cause his long time wish came true. He always wanted to visit USA and in two weeks its going to happen. He will stay in New York for a week and then visit the Woodward Camp with few other guys from Europe.
You can expect a nice web edit from USA .

Sam recently did an interview for Cream magazine and also he is really proud that for the first time in his career he got a cover shot. This issue of Cream just got out few days ago, so be sure that you get your copy and read what Sam has to say.

Filip is probably the only guy on the team that is still riding these days even though its subzero temp. outside, hehe. His new signature bar is arriving in few weeks so he is super stoked on that.

Aki recently competed on World Classics and did a great job representing Zion. He continues to train real hard and plans to visit Canada to compete there again. Aki and Cory Fester on a same contest , sounds amazing, hehe.

Pretty Mean Sprocket !!!

This Zion sprocket has been on the market for a year now and riders comments on it are really really great. Its really strong, nice simple design, three beautiful colors and is compatible with both 22mm and 19mm axles.

My summer roadtrip

Everybody that knows me know how much I love to travel. For me it is one of the best bonuses that comes along with riding bmx.

In summer of 2009 I packed my Zion van and started a long roadtrip from Zagreb (Croatia) to United Kingdom. I planed to do that for a long time and this summer it finally happened. Started in Zagreb, stopped in Munich for a day, few days in Cologne for Bmx Masters and then took a ferry from France to UK. Stayed in UK for 2 weeks, visited Sam, Effraim and Keelan, drove around the country and enjoyed the beautiful nature.
Zion van has a nice big bed and a little stove, so i have all I need and I can always travel on a really low budget.
Whole trip lasted for 3 weeks and I drove for 5000 km.

Assembly was finished before I arrived to factory, so I didn't get a chance to film it. But here you can see final packing and loading to container.

Hehe, from the first time I went to Taiwan I fell in love in Chinese language and told myself I'll learn it one day. Well I kept the promise.

Few months ago I signed into a Chinese language class and been really enjoying learning to speak and write Chinese. This week I passed my final exam and got a diploma for a beginner level of Chinese.
Knowing any foreign language is really valuable knowledge, but knowing Chinese in my case also has a great bonus. Since all Zion products are made in Taiwan and I go there every year to arrange and monitor productions , speaking Chinese is going to make a huge difference.

My next trip to Taiwan is in March and I can't wait to test my skills there , hehe.

Sam Foakes presents Zion Luna frame to a lucky winner at Bolton YMCA

At Level Vibes, Chris Massey brought a ton of kids from his youth project in Bolton to compete, what many didn't realise was that, these bikes were funded for the project and don't actually belong to the kids,Sam wanted to give away the frame to a young kid just getting into flatland, hoping to encourage him to ride harder.
Sam recently went to the Bolton YMCA project to personally give the Zion frame to a very stoked Kieran!!
This is a great bit of youth work on Chris and Sam's part, I hope these kids stick at it, much respect to all involved!

Hehe, this is one of those insane roadtrip moments that just can't be explained.
We were driving for 10 hours straight from Croatia to Trutnov in Czech Republik for a contest.....the trip took FOREVER and it was hot as hell in the van...and then in the middle of nowhere all of the sudden there is a "real size" white metal elephant right next to the road...standing there in the field, for no reason...I just hit the brakes really hard and we were all just started laughing like crazy...

This is still probably my favorite roadtirp photo, hehehe...

I can honestly say that for this whole last year Filip has been riding more then anyone else in Zion team, made huge progress and also put a lot of effort in promoting Zion. So to show my respect to him we started his signature handlebar project.
We made this babies just the way Filip likes them...tall, wide and super strong...

Here are few photos of a custom Luna complete bike that I built for a friend of mine. I just love the way it turned out , so I wanted to share it with you guys. The idea was to make the whole bike black&white only.
I used Zion Luna frame and fork, Worldwide stem, PMS sprocket , headset and bb and some other sweet parts like Colony handlebars, WTP cranks...

Hi everyone !!!

I'm really glad to say that new Zion web site is finally online. It has been a project that I wanted to do for ages, but just couldn't find enough free time. But since winter hit us pretty hard and I can't ride at all I decided to finally finish this project.
And here it is , hehe, hope you like it.

Only part of this new site that is still not finished are new team interviews. Those will be published soon and in the meantime you can see riders photo galleries instead.

Another new thing is the compilation of your Zion bikes, so if you want to have a photo of your Zion bike published on Zion website just send it to our email.

Level Vibes event took place in London this weekend and I'm really sorry I couldn't be there. While its really cold and wet outside, 50 riders enjoyed a really nice indoor place
and it looks like this event was exactly what flatland needs these days. Hope we have more days like this in 2010.
Sam Foakes had a great idea to donate one Luna frame to a rider that impressed him the most, so one lucky guy (Kieran) will have a nice new frame after this weekend.

Winter time

You can see that I haven't been updating the site lately. Well, winter time is here and it came hard, hehe. At this moment Zagreb (my city) is buried in snow and this morning its -15 C outside, so riding is not really an option. Unfortunately, Zagreb has no indoor parks and its probably also one of rare capitals that also doesn't have an indoor flatland spot that we could ride in winter. All parking garages have security so we're not able to session there.
But don't think we're not busy, hehe. Working hard on new website and some new products that are coming this spring...

Today is Zion Bike Co.'s 5th birthday !!!

Exactly 5 years ago a first finished prototype Zion bike arrived to Croatia, a first generation Luna. Even though the whole project started 6 months before this, I choose this date as a symbolic birthday of Zion Bike Co.
You can't even imagine all the things that happened since that day and I can honestly say I enjoyed every single one of it. What started as a small project of a 20 year old rider is now a legit company that sells bikes and parts worldwide, has an amazing team and enjoys a well deserved reputation of one of the best upoming companies in flatland world.

I would like to say a huge "thank you" to everyone that ever contributed to this in any possible way.

Don't think that I'm just partying and trashing myself these days, cause there are so many new projects going on in Zion at the moment that I barely sleep. First thing I would like to announce is the new Zion website that will be online sometime next week. This is a was a priority cause as you can see this current site is really old and there are so many informations missing, specially in products sestion... completely my fault, hehe.
Next, I would like to announce that new Zion 2010 complete bikes are soon to be shipped from Taiwan so they will be available in shops in February. Also, there are many prototypes of new products that are in production at the moment, like Luna and LowKee complete bikes, new street frames, forks and bars , a final version of Sam's signature Focus frame, a new longer version of Keelan's LowKee frame, a redesigned Worldwide stem and few more projects that I would like to keep a secret for now.

To end these news here is a photo of that first Luna prototype that arrived to Croatia on January 5th, 2005. Whole Zion Bike Co. evolved from this one bike, hehe...
